teen workshops

At Barefoot and Wild we are passionate about mental health in our community and are excited about helping our wider community.

After seeing the levels of mental health issues within our clients and talking with others in the community, we decided to change our focus of our work and concentrate on ways to work on the problems youth were facing.

After searching for something that aligned with our values we chose to use the programme Horses Helping Humans to go with the techniques we were using.

Sue Spence, the founder has been running her award winning programme in Australia for nearly 20 years helping people from all walks of life from juvenile offenders to corporate team building.

By incorporating the programme with our diverse herd of horses we can guide our clients to see the change they can make within themselves and give them the confidence to strive.

Horses are incredibly intuitive and are the perfect companion to work with as they give you instant feedback when we make any changes within ourselves.

Our vision is to work with as many youth as possible and give them the experience and benefits that horses offer.

Our goal is to run a minimum of 1 (2 week) workshops a month, giving teens tools on how to handle challenges like anxiety, confidence and self esteem, setting boundaries, anger management, and focus. These tools can help with depression, self-worth, improved communication, de-escalating conflict, and improved family harmony.

Our plan is to be the helping hand at the top of the cliff instead of the ambulance at the bottom before things get too much.

By helping our local youth to learn these skills we can all benefit as a wider community and create a happier and safer environment for us all to enjoy.

We would love for the community to jump onboard and help up with our goal as these youths will be the next generation of employees, business owners  and entrepreneurs.

We have had a massive influx of parents and caregivers wanting help with their young people. Whilst we have the capacity, the vast majority of those don’t have the means to attend.

The teen workshops run over 2 consecutive weekend afternoons at an overall cost of $200 per teen. We would love to have businesses sponsor as a one off or on a regular basis. We will add each sponsor to our website and mention on social media posts as much as we can.  We are also currently speaking with various local media, who wish to do stories on our initiative and where possible we will mention sponsors.

Parents/caregivers who are able to fund the sessions are able to book in paid for paid spots.
Parents/caregivers that would like to put their teens on the waitlist please get in touch and tell us a bit about your teen and their needs plus where you are from and any info you think may be helpful.
