meet the herd
Our herd has come from many different backgrounds and have their own stories to reflect their part in the herd.

Lead Mare
Lexie
While she is the quiet type, Lexie is our lead mare. She surprised us when she moved into this role as she was quite a shy and sensitive girl. She is a respected leader within the herd and does so without force or aggression. She is a very sensitive and attentive mare from the northland wilds.
She came to us unrideable and very fearful of people, but after gaining her trust she is our main hōiho and is a favourite with our long term clients

The Labrador
Finn
Finn was given to us as sadly his owner passed and he had some issues, including visual impairment. Part of his treatment involved contact care with Pepe at Ewen Equine Management and Contact Care. He's come a long way and is now leading the herd alongside Lexie. He's become a big favourite with the kids that come here and a valued member of the team.
He loves a good smooch and has labrador energy.

Cheeky Nugget
Fern
Another Bush pony from up north, Fern is a little smooch and would get scratches all day long if she could. A little cheeky if she can get away with it but always wanting to have fun.

The Sassy Show Off
Dulux
This sweet dude was gifted to us alongside Finn. A stallion who made some beautiful babies in his time, then gelded and needed someone to give him a new type of life. He was backed by our youngest Indie with some challenges like chucking in the odd buck, she did a fanstastic job and now has him doing some really cool stuff and he seems to love showing off his skills.

Bossy Boots
Sunny
Sunny is our hōiho that will test you the most. She wants to know everyone's business and knows best. She is the one that takes the most convincing that you can be a confident leader. Once you have her trust she will do anything for you.
Sunny came to us young at 6 months from a Kaimanawa muster, Edey (our middle daughter) learned to handle her alongside Kelly Wilson, her story appears in Kelly's book, Taming The Wild. We think she was the lead mares daughter as she behaves like she knows best.

The Snug Demander
Rā
Rā is Sunny's Baby, her dad is a beautiful Gypsy Stallion. Gypsys are known for their placid nature and Rā is certainly that. If you visit she will saunter over and demand snugs and pats.
At only 2 she's too young for riding, Edey has started doing some liberty work with her and she seems to enjoy that.

The Gypsy Plodder
Aiyana
This sweet girl is a great confidence builder and is happy to plod around.
She's a sweety who loves a snug and a brush.

Moustachio
Azula (right)
Did you know some horses grow moustaches?
Azula is one! It changes in length depending on the season but is always there for a fun comical vibe shes quite kooky with her one blue eye also!
Azula hasn't done a lot of miles yet but is one of our good plodders for leading around.

New Guy
Ziggy
This guy is brand new into the herd as of Nov 2025 and is a super friendly guy who will love to have snugs

People Pleaser
Bindi
Bindi really wants to please. She can be a speedster when asked, but also lovely and calm when needed.

Sweet Doofus
Bohdi (left)
This guy came to us as a scared, shaggy lil 1 year old, he's 2 now and blossoming. Such a sweet clumsy boy.

Sensitive & Sweet
Piper (left)
Piper is currently on break with a tendon injury. So no riding for this sweet girl while she recovers.
